The transfer, which includes an initial fee of £10 million with a further £5 million in performance-related add-ons, is expected to be finalized in the coming days. Norgaard, 31, has reportedly agreed personal terms and is eager to join the North London club, with only a medical and final paperwork remaining before the move is completed.
Norgaard has been a pivotal figure for Brentford since arriving from Fiorentina in 2019, making nearly 200 appearances and captaining the side through their rise and consolidation in the Premier League. The Denmark international is under contract at Brentford until 2027, but the lure of Champions League football and the chance to join Mikel Arteta’s project at Arsenal proved decisive.
The move comes as Arsenal prepare for a midfield reshuffle. Thomas Partey is expected to leave the club when his contract expires next week, with reported interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia and across Europe. Jorginho has already departed for Flamengo, leaving a gap in Arsenal’s midfield that Norgaard is set to fill.
Manager Mikel Arteta has made strengthening the midfield a priority this summer, and Norgaard’s Premier League experience and leadership qualities are seen as vital assets as the Gunners look to build on last season’s progress.
Arsenal are also working on deals for Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, as Arteta looks to bolster his squad ahead of a return to Champions League action.
The signing of Norgaard is expected to be Arsenal’s first major addition of the summer transfer window, signaling the club’s intent to compete on multiple fronts in the upcoming season.
