Chevalier, widely regarded as one of Europe’s most promising goalkeepers, will wear the No. 30 shirt and is expected to immediately take over as PSG’s first-choice goalkeeper under manager Luis Enrique. His arrival signals the likely departure of current No. 1 Gianluigi Donnarumma, whose contract negotiations with the club have stalled.
Rising Star of French Football
Born in Calais on November 6, 2001, Chevalier progressed through Lille’s youth academy before making his professional debut on loan at Valenciennes in Ligue 2. He returned to Lille to become a key figure in the first team, making 99 Ligue 1 appearances, keeping 36 clean sheets, and winning the 2025 Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year award.
Known for his modern ‘sweeper-keeper’ style, distribution skills, and composure under pressure, Chevalier was also named to the UNFP Ligue 1 Team of the Year and nominated for the Lev Yashin Trophy.
PSG’s Long-Term Vision
Club president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi hailed the signing, calling Chevalier “one of the best goalkeepers in France and Europe” and a cornerstone of PSG’s long-term project. “His arrival brings youth, quality and ambition to our goalkeeping department,” Al-Khelaïfi added.
Chevalier has already featured for France’s U21 and senior national teams and will challenge Mike Maignan for the Les Bleus starting role ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He could make his competitive debut for PSG in the upcoming UEFA Super Cup final against Tottenham Hotspur.
Player’s Reaction
Speaking after the announcement, Chevalier called the move “a dream come true,” adding: “I’m proud to join PSG and will defend these colors with passion and determination. I’m excited to face the challenges ahead.”
This transfer marks one of the biggest goalkeeper moves of the summer and underscores PSG’s commitment to building a squad capable of competing at the highest European level.
