The 29-year-old midfielder, a central figure in City’s historic treble-winning 2022–23 season, has seen his role diminish over the past year under Pep Guardiola. Grealish started just seven Premier League matches last campaign, struggling for both form and fitness, prompting him to seek a fresh start in a bid to reignite his career and bolster his chances of making England’s 2026 World Cup squad.
According to sources, Everton will cover around £90,000 a week of Grealish’s £300,000 weekly salary, with Manchester City subsidising the remainder. Factoring in wages and a reported loan fee, the deal is expected to cost the Merseyside club around £15 million for the season.
Everton manager David Moyes sees the signing as a “statement of intent” as the club begins a new era at their recently opened Hill Dickinson Stadium. The Toffees, now under the ownership of the Friedkin group, have been active in the transfer market and believe Grealish’s creativity and versatility — whether on the left flank or in a central playmaking role — can help address their attacking deficiencies from last season.
For Grealish, the move represents an opportunity to return to consistent first-team football, something he has been starved of in Manchester. Known for his dribbling skills, vision, and ability to unlock defences, he will be tasked with injecting flair and leadership into Everton’s midfield.
The deal is expected to be finalised once Grealish completes his medical, scheduled for later this week. If the move proves successful, Everton could trigger the £50 million purchase clause next summer, making the transfer permanent.
