Liverpool striker Alexander Isak faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a broken lower leg during his side’s 2–1 Premier League victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Friday night. The Sweden international has already undergone surgery, with the club confirming that he will now begin a long rehabilitation process at the AXA Training Centre.

The incident occurred as Isak scored Liverpool’s opening goal in London, colliding with Spurs defender Micky van de Ven in the process of finishing the chance. Isak was left in clear distress on the turf and required assistance to leave the pitch, prompting immediate concern from teammates and medical staff.

Subsequent scans revealed a fracture in the lower part of his left leg, with the injury understood to involve both the ankle area and fibula. While Liverpool have not placed an official timeframe on his recovery, the nature of the damage means the 26‑year‑old is expected to miss several months of action.

The setback is a major blow for both player and club, coming only months after Isak’s high‑profile arrival at Anfield in a British‑record deal reportedly worth around £125 million. His first season in red had already been disrupted by fitness problems, limiting him to a modest return of three goals in 16 appearances in all competitions.

Isak’s absence leaves head coach Arne Slot with reduced options in attack at a crucial stage of the campaign, with Liverpool competing on multiple fronts domestically and in Europe. The club are now expected to lean more heavily on their remaining forwards, while also weighing up whether to dip into the transfer market to reinforce their forward line.

Liverpool issued a brief statement thanking supporters for their messages of support and expressing confidence that Isak will return stronger once his rehabilitation is complete. Fans on social media have rallied behind the striker, with many highlighting the cruel timing of the injury just as he appeared to be finding rhythm in the team.
