Mosquera becomes Arsenal’s fifth acquisition of a busy summer transfer window, joining the likes of Martín Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Christian Nørgaard, and Kepa Arrizabalaga as new arrivals under manager Mikel Arteta. He is set to don the No. 3 shirt for the North London club.
The Spain U21 international arrives with an impressive pedigree, having made 90 senior appearances for Valencia since his debut in January 2022. Notably, he was the youngest centre-back to appear for the club, breaking into the first team at just 17. Over the past two LaLiga campaigns, Mosquera established himself as one of the league’s most reliable young defenders, recording more minutes than any other player under 21 across Europe’s top five leagues.
His performances at both club and international level have drawn admiring glances from across the continent. Mosquera anchored Spain’s defense in the U21 European Championship and was part of the squad that clinched gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Versatile and composed, Mosquera is comfortable at centre-back or full-back, offering valuable flexibility to Arsenal’s back line. His arrival boosts competition alongside William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, especially after the departure of Takehiro Tomiyasu. Renowned for his tactical intelligence, aerial prowess, and calmness under pressure, the Alicante-born defender completed more passes than any Valencia player last season (1,822), while also ranking among his team’s leaders in both tackles (36) and aerial duels won (32).
Manager Mikel Arteta welcomed the new signing, stating:
“We’re delighted to welcome Cristhian to Arsenal. As a 21-year-old defender, he’s already built significant experience in La Liga and has shown intelligence, good pace, and versatility across the defensive line. We believe he has enormous potential and will fit well into our squad as we prepare for a big season ahead.”
After finalizing the move, Mosquera described it as a “new era” in his career, expressing excitement at the chance to play for “a historic, massive club” in one of the world’s top leagues.
With the addition of Mosquera, Arsenal strengthen their defensive lineup as they aim to contend on all fronts in the upcoming 2025-26 season. The transfer is widely seen as a significant step in the club’s ongoing strategy to combine experience with emerging talent in pursuit of future success.
