Arsenal strike back after early scare
Roared on by a raucous home crowd, Arsenal made the breakthrough midway through the first half when Jurrien Timber rose to power in a header from a set piece, capping a spell of early pressure from the hosts. Bayern, who had threatened intermittently on the counter, hit back soon after as youngster Lennart Karl finished off a slick move to become the first player to score against Arsenal in this Champions League campaign. The equaliser briefly shifted momentum, but the Gunners regrouped to reach the interval level and still in control of the overall rhythm.
Bench heroes tilt the game
The second half belonged to Arsenal, whose intensity and depth eventually overwhelmed Thomas Tuchel’s side. Arteta’s changes proved decisive as substitute Noni Madueke restored the lead with a composed finish from a low cross, before Gabriel Martinelli punished a rare Manuel Neuer misjudgement on the break to make it 3-1 and effectively kill the game. Bayern’s attack, led by Harry Kane, struggled to create clear chances as Arsenal’s back line and midfield control restricted them to half-openings and hopeful crosses.
Statement win in Europe
The victory moves Arsenal to 15 points from 5 games at the top of the league-phase standings, ahead of Paris Saint‑Germain, Bayern and Inter, all sitting three points back. It also ends Bayern’s perfect record and sends a firm message that Arsenal, domestically strong and now ruthless in Europe, are emerging as one of the leading contenders for this season’s Champions League crown.
