Paris Saint-Germain turned the Parc des Princes into their personal playground on Monday night, delivering a ruthless, swaggering 7-0 dismantling of Brest. It was a performance that veered between the exhilarating and the absurd, a masterclass in controlled destruction, and a statement—if ever one was needed—that PSG are very much still the kings of Ligue 1.

A Night of Relentless Brilliance

There are good performances. There are dominant ones. And then there’s what PSG did to Brest. It wasn’t just the scoreline; it was the manner of it. The way Kylian Mbappé and company toyed with their opponents, the clinical precision with which they dispatched every chance, the sheer inevitability of it all.

From the moment the game kicked off, Brest looked like a side walking into a storm. PSG’s front line was irrepressible, moving with the kind of fluency that makes defenders question their life choices. Within minutes, the floodgates opened.

Mbappé, as ever, was the catalyst. A darting run, a feint, and a perfectly weighted ball to Ousmane Dembélé saw the first warning shot skim just wide. Brest barely had time to regroup before the inevitable happened: a sweeping move down the left, Nuno Mendes cutting the ball back, and there was Mbappé, waiting like a man who already knew what was coming. One touch. One shot. One goal. It was the kind of inevitability that makes defending against him feel futile.

And yet, PSG weren’t satisfied with a mere one-goal advantage. This was a night where they seemed intent on proving a point.

The Floodgates Open

If Brest had any hope of stabilizing, it lasted all of five minutes. The second goal came in a blur, a lightning-quick exchange between Dembélé and Vitinha before the Portuguese midfielder slid the ball through to Bradley Barcola. His finish was ice-cold, a delicate dink past the onrushing keeper, and suddenly it was two.

By the time the third and fourth went in, Brest were ghosts. Mbappé, playing as if the pitch were a personal playground, added his second after ghosting past two defenders and rifling the ball into the bottom corner. Then Achraf Hakimi got in on the act, latching onto a deep cross from Fabian Ruiz and volleying home with the kind of arrogance only a fullback in a team this dominant can afford.

The Statement Win

At halftime, the only real question was how ugly it would get for Brest. PSG were in the mood, and when Luis Enrique’s side play like this, the opposition become little more than spectators to their own downfall.

It did get uglier. Brest, to their credit, tried to at least contain the damage in the second half, but PSG had no intention of slowing down. Randal Kolo Muani made it five with a delicate chip after capitalizing on a defensive error. The sixth? That belonged to Mbappé again, completing his hat trick with an audacious backheel flick past the helpless Brest keeper.

The final insult came courtesy of Marco Asensio, who had spent most of the match quietly pulling strings in midfield before deciding to put the cherry on top of PSG’s destruction. A curling effort from outside the box, an apologetic glance at the scoreboard, and that was that. Seven. Nil.

A Warning to the Rest of Europe

For Brest, this was a lesson in humility. For PSG, this was a reminder of what they can do when everything clicks. Luis Enrique, never one for overstatement, kept his post-match comments measured. “We played well,” he said with a knowing smile. “But we always demand more.”

The rest of Ligue 1—and Europe—might want to take that as a warning. On this evidence, PSG are more than just a collection of superstars. They’re a machine. A terrifying, ruthless machine, and when they’re in this kind of mood, the only thing an opponent can do is hope to survive.

Last night, Brest didn’t. They never stood a chance.
