The Galway Races Summer Festival is on track for a record-breaking year, with ticket sales for the 2025 event soaring well ahead of previous years. Organisers have reported a significant increase in advance purchases, sparking optimism that this year’s attendance will surpass the 130,000 mark for the first time since before the pandemic.

Michael Moloney, Chief Executive of Galway Racecourse, credited the surge to a revamped marketing strategy that has placed a greater emphasis on online ticketing and targeted promotions. “We’ve seen a tremendous response to our new approach, especially with tailored offers for different days and audience groups,” Moloney said. “It’s clear that people are eager to return to the festival atmosphere that makes Galway so special.”

The week-long festival, running from Monday, July 28 to Sunday, August 3, promises a packed schedule of racing, entertainment, and themed events. Highlights include the prestigious Galway Plate on Wednesday, the ever-popular Ladies Day, and a family-focused Sunday to round out the festivities.

This year’s event will also unveil several enhancements, including a new winning connections circle in the parade ring and upgraded hospitality facilities for owners and guests. In response to feedback, organisers have also shifted the Galway Tribes Handicap Hurdle from Friday to Saturday, aiming to optimise the race programme and enhance the experience for both participants and spectators.

Industry insiders are already predicting that both opening day and overall weekly attendance will shatter previous records, with betting markets offering extremely short odds on record-breaking crowds. Last year’s festival drew 116,374 visitors, while the 2019 pre-pandemic event attracted just over 130,000.

“The appetite for live events is stronger than ever,” Moloney added. “With the improvements we’ve made and the excitement building online, we’re confident that 2025 will be a landmark year for the Galway Races.”

Tickets for all seven days of the festival are available online, with organisers encouraging early booking to avoid disappointment. With the combination of top-class racing, entertainment, and a renewed sense of community spirit, the 2025 Galway Races are set to be a highlight of the Irish sporting and social calendar.
